Have you ever wondered why sometimes our well-wishers advise us to not speak too much and try to listen more?
Honestly, this is something that I have heard more than a dozen times. Lately, I have come to realize the many positives of keeping mum now and then.
The ancient Russians believed that the brain is a human’s best friend and the tongue is the worst enemy. It is because people who tend to speak or boast a lot usually show very little credibility in terms of their performance. For such people, most of their energy is spent on banter. Also, people like these reveal their plans, strengths, and weaknesses to the world which places their success and growth in jeopardy.
Let’s elaborate on this notion, imagine you have a job in a corporate firm, To bring yourself to the limelight, you plan a project which will impeccably bring success to your firm. Proper execution of this would earn you a promotion that you’ve been waiting for a while. A fortnight before taking your work to your supervisor for approval, you go to a party with your colleagues and in course of the conversation, you disclose your ideas to someone there. One of your colleagues overheard you and cunningly steals your plan. They go home and whip up a refined and possibly better version of the same overnight; ready to be presented the next morning. In no time, all your work was stolen and you are left with nothing. That person is promoted and you may even be fired for no appreciable input to the firm. Your inability to be confidential leads to you losing your entire career.

Though I believe in making this world a merrier place, you need to remember this it isn’t idealistic now. There are all sorts of people- good, bad, mean, conniving, and so on, you can never judge what a person would do based on any information that you share with them. You must keep track of what or how much you share with any peer.
A good way to stay tranquil is by being a good listener. Practicing this will also enhance your observation skills and help you understand people better.
Another way is to engage with crowds that help you elevate your skills.
Another good method is keeping track of what you’re speaking. Being mindful of the information that you share will ensure how the person in the reception uses the data that you share with them.
It is entirely on you about how you refine yourself but it is necessary to understand that speaking a lot without being adequately productive will hamper your life in many ways. Keeping a timely check on yourself will help you counter any effect that it may carry onto you.
Hush now!
