The proverb 'watched pot never boils' means, time seems to move more slowly when one is anticipating something or waiting for something to happen and yes, it is true though.
Don't you start getting angry when your Wi-Fi starts to buffer?
Don't you start getting angry when a pot of milk takes forever to boil?
Don't you feel frustrated when you have to wait in a long queue at the bank?
The answer to the above questions must be a yes only because we want things to happen within a blink of an eye and when things start to take the time we tend to get frustrated and angry. This is an expression that we humans are very impatient.
So, if we talk about a boiling pot It doesn't mean that the water in the pot will never boil. It just means if you are doing nothing else besides waiting then it will seem like it is taking a very long time to boil. The water will certainly boil for sure irrespective of whether you are watching it or not.
I also came across a situation when I felt like the time is just not passing at all and this happened to me when I saw the news on television that the 12th results will be released in two or three days then daily until the result came I used to check the website multiple times but that time it seems that the time is moving slower than usual.
Things like this usually happen in bad or in stressful times but when it comes to happy times it seems like time flies swiftly.
Whenever we go on a vacation, a one-week long trip seems as if it was only a day-long trip, doesn't it? and when we attend a boring lecture in class it feels like the time has stopped and the lecture is not getting over. It’s just a matter of perception.
Things like this usually happen to all of us in our day-to-day lives.
It is just how we perceive the passing of time!
If I ask you what comes to your mind when you see a boiling pot of milk? Just that we have to give it a boil and keep it aside!
But have you ever given it a thought that it also teaches us several lessons which are very important in our life-
Patience: Patience is of prime importance in one's life. We must learn to be patient in life and wait for things to happen rather than messing them up in a hurry.
Good things happen to those who wait: One should learn to wait and should not haste for things as things done in hurry often turn out to be disastrous.
Don't rush for things to happen: There is a saying that slow and steady wins the race and yes that is true if you'll rush then you may end up ruining things in life.
