Imagine;
Young Albert Einstein gave up on himself as his speech was not fluent until the age of nine.
Imagine Bill Gates getting depressed as his first business was a true failure.
Imagine J K Rowling not overcoming the suicidal thoughts she had as a struggling mother.
Quiet startling, right?
If anyone of them had given up on themselves while facing hardships; none of their names would be renowned.
Social Comparison often drives human beings to compare themselves with others. Comparison in looks, comparison in wealth, comparison in success, comparison n lifestyle, and so on.
Each one of us has some weaknesses and strengths. While pursuing any task and facing difficulties or failures we often compare ourselves with the people who are experts in that field and start justifying the reasons why they could achieve their goals. But the fact is even experts were novices at some time and were experimenting on things for the first time.
Here are the problems faced by some groups of society:
Study and School-Related Issues of Students
From the perspective of adults, student life seems to be chilling without much work. Parents expect their children to score well. But for a student, with the burden of homework, less guidance, and an extremely competitive environment; they fail to satisfy their parents.
Health Issues of Elderly People
We often feel that aged people are annoying, negative, and complaining about everything. It seems like they just keep interfering in every matter but we forget the physical, social and mental pain they are going through.
Networking Issues of Introverts
Extroverts and ambiverts are good at communication and make a lot of friends and networks wherever they go. But introverts face a lot of struggles in reaching out to people. They are often blamed and criticized for not having many friends. They are not given many opportunities. They are not considered a good leader. Often they are ignored and not invited to parties.
Financial Issues of the Poor
While people keep nagging about their luxurious life, poor people due to financial issues face food, cloth, and shelter problem.
So the thing is everyone has some difficulties or failures and not everything is easy in life. If one thinks things are easier for others, one should even focus on disabled people or mentally unstable people for whom even basic chores of daily life are a series of challenges. Such people even struggle for working on small things but the motivation and the brave attitude they carry in their heart is worth inspiring. Such people focus on the good side of life, they work hard rather than complaining or giving up. These people face difficulties for mere survival but the amazing thing is such people don’t hold their hearts and it takes a lot of courage and a fearless attitude to overcome such barriers.
If we aren't able to achieve something, we always give excuses. But we do need to think about how other people are overcoming and doing better. Procrastination, bad mood, poor health, and so on are often there in other people’s lives as well.
It is human behavior to focus on output rather than the process. We always see a person’s achievement and start justifying their life and the reason for their success. Instead, it should be the efforts that we should be focusing on. Because it’s the efforts, the hard work, the struggle, and the hustle that leads to a good result. All these things are never easy for anyone.
As the idiom says,” Grass is always greener on the other side”, the lives of other people seem easy to us. We, fickle-minded people, start comparing ourselves with others which eventually lowers our self-esteem and self-confidence.
Each person has his talent and journey. While comparing with others we should keep in mind that we should not compare our first step with any other person’s third step. Thus, learning from each event and each experience of ours as well as of others must be our aim to perform better in life.
Here are some of the things which can be done for overcoming this issue:
Practice and Practice
If you feel that you are not good at something. You should be good at just putting yourself into that thing and keep practicing. This is the most important thing to gain and learn from the mistakes and failures you receive while practicing.
Don’t Fear Trying New Things
Trying new things and getting out of our comfort zone expand our minds and overcome our fears. It not only helps us to learn about new things and new people but also it updates us.
Stop Victimizing yourself
Victimizing ourselves is just a justification for our failures. Instead, we should sit with a calm mind; stop thinking about others, and start to recognize the difficulties and find solutions for ourselves.
