There is a small town nestled at the foot of a great mountain. The townspeople are hardworking and friendly, but they have a problem. Every year, during the rainy season, the river that runs through the town overflows, causing floods that destroy homes and crops.
For years, the people have tried everything to stop the floods, but nothing has worked.
Finally, they decided to seek the help of a wise old man who lived on the other side of the mountain.
When they arrived at the old man's cottage, he listened patiently to their problem and said, "the solution is simple, you must plant trees."
The townspeople were surprised.
"How could planting trees stop the floods?" they asked.
The old man explained, "Trees absorb water from the soil and release it slowly into the atmosphere through a process called transpiration."
He further explained, "This process regulates the flow of water but also prevents soil erosion. The roots of the trees also help to hold the soil in place, preventing landslides."
The townspeople followed the old man's advice and began planting. It was hard work, but they did it together. And within a few years, the mountain was covered with lush greenery.
The next time the rainy season came, the river did not overflow. The trees on the mountain had absorbed the excess water, regulating the flow and preventing flooding.
The townspeople were overjoyed and grateful to the old man. And they learned an important lesson: that small actions can have big consequences. Planting trees may seem like a small thing, but it can make a big difference in the world.
