The popular adage "those who stand for nothing, fall for everything" is an important message about the need of having a strong set of personal values and beliefs. It is important for every human being to have a clear understanding of what they stand for otherwise they may fall prey to the opinions set forth by others.
Staying mum and letting others take advantage of one's passivity has never been beneficial for anybody.
Society has a way of rewarding strong people that stick to their values and principles even in the face of adversities. Often times people who are easily swayed by other's views are seen as weak and submissive. Do not let yourself be that.
Speak up and take control!
Try to be content with how you are and how you feel. Your opinions may be right sometimes but sometimes they may also be wrong. There will be conflicting opinions and people will try to shun you. There will be some people around you who will change themselves just so they can fit in with the others. Do not let yourself be that. Always remember to be true to yourself.
Your opinions may change but your “self” should not.
When we are true to ourselves, we are able to form deeper connections with others and form relationships based on trust and mutual understanding.
On the other hand, those who do not stand for anything are very likely to make decisions based on what they think others want them to do, rather than what is truly important to them. This can lead to feelings of confusion, hesitancy, and a lack of moral direction in life.
In the contemporary world that we live in, everybody is busy seeking validation however they can. As humans, we have resorted to wooing others by simply saying yes to their yes. Being a yes-man is one of the easiest things to do in order to quickly catch hold of the other person’s attention. It might give you the quick validation that you seek but in the long run, you and your views will slowly fade into oblivion.
So, do not lose yourself as you try to please others.
On the other hand, if you counter their views and have a healthy debate, they might see you as a strong-willed person and hence their respect for you might increase tenfold.
